This week in Sedona, AZ is going to be one of the best sunset opportunities in a long while. Not only is it the heart of our annual monsoon season which offers brillant views. There will also be a planetary conjunction to enhance our skies. Venus and Jupiter are very close to each other and the two Roman gods will get closer and closer in the western skies as the week progresses.
The absolute best plces to view the rare conjunction is the Airport Mesa lookout. In my opinion the Airprt Mesa is the best view in Sedona and its free. To get the Sedona Airport Mesa is easy and only takes a few minutes from Uptown Sedona.
Drive south past the "Y" on HWY 89A about a mile to fist traffic light, Airport Rd. Turn right and drive all the way to the top. You will see the lookout area and on the left is plenty of parking. Try and arrive about 30 minutes before sunset and enjoy the daily shadow show against the red rocks.
Regardless of celestial events, the Airport Mesa at sunset is the best free thing to in Sedona.
