See the real Sedona when you take to the Forest Service road system on your next visit. There are hundreds of miles of scenic byways to choose from and enjoy. One of my favorite places is Nolan Tank at the foot of Loy Canyon. (Pictured Below)
Nolan Tank is on FR 525C a graded dirt road that most passenger cars can travel on. Nolan Tank is actually a pond. In Arizona we call ponds, tanks and meadows are called parks. For instance if your driving down the freeway and see an exit for Belmont Park, its actually a meadow area and you find any picnic tables.
My favorite Forest Service road is out west is the for mentioned 525c. To get to it turn toward the Red Rocks onto Dry Creek Road and keep bearing left till the pavement runs out, then follow the signs to Loy Canyon. Its graded, beautiful and takes you to the Honanki ruins. A perfect 2 to 3 hour trip through Sedona's stunning back country.
Take your time, check the weather and bring along water before you head out. Have fun and enjoy the roads of Sedona.
